# Multi-Story Bookcases The Bookshelf Apartment from Rintala Eggertsson Holds 6,000 Books By Michael Hines | Published 2010-07-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookshelf-apartment References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2010/07/02/the-bookshelf-apartment/) & [rintalaeggertsson](http://www.rintalaeggertsson.com/) I could see book nerds losing their minds over the Bookshelf Apartment. This epic bookcase was designed by Rintala Eggertsson for the [Small Spaces exhibition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/library-of-light) at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I wouldn't mind spending most of my days reading, but I don't think I would be willing to pay the lease on the Bookshelf Apartment. Even though the Bookshelf Apartment is an art installation, I could still see this becoming a [viable way to store books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbox-modular-shelving). I wouldn't mind hiking up stairs if I got a book or two out of it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Vertical Storage:** The trend of vertical storage solutions can be applied to various industries, such as home organization and retail, to maximize space and create visually appealing displays. - **Interactive Art Installations:** The rise of interactive art installations opens up new opportunities for artists and designers to create immersive experiences and engage audiences in unique ways. - **Specialized Housing:** The demand for specialized housing options, such as bookshelf apartments, presents an opportunity for real estate developers to cater to niche markets and create innovative living spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Home Organization:** The home organization industry can explore incorporating vertical storage solutions to offer space-saving and aesthetically pleasing storage options for books and other items. - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can explore the integration of interactive elements into installations to create engaging and immersive experiences for visitors. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can explore the concept of specialized housing units, such as bookshelf apartments, to provide unique living spaces that cater to specific interests and lifestyles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Expandable Bookcase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burrow-index-bookcase.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [CD-Centric Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-nube.md) - [Video Game-Like Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetris-bookcase.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Toy Block-Inspired Wooden Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotating-picture-book.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Filled Mezzanine Lofts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dumbo-loft.md) - [Small-Space-Friendly Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twoinone-billy-model.md)
