# Skewed Slot Shelving The Bookshape Shelf Prescribes the Disheveled Organization of Publications By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookshape-shelf References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/48924/) & [davideradaelli](http://www.davideradaelli.com/Industrial_projects/BookshapeWall.htm) Despite the purpose of a bookcase being a means to keep your hardcovers and paperbacks neat and tidy, the Bookshape Shelf has clutter built-in. Not true disorder of course, for this eccentric [wall-mounted ledge](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledge-shelf) satisfies as a holder for [various books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-x-moebe-book-stand) -- and books only -- within a [compact and contained space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table). Designer Davide Radaelli began with the form of a rectangular prism, hollowed out and void of closed short ends. He then cut slots out from this conceptual solid surface that are matched by the slits in the rear panel as well. Each of the slender rectilinear openings were made to fit most novels. They have been arranged at playful angles in the Bookshape Shelf to encourage the appearance of leaning and horizontally stacked reading material. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Skewed Slot Shelving:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the shelving industry by introducing unconventional designs that embrace clutter and disheveled organization. - **Eccentric Wall-mounted Ledges:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry by creating wall-mounted shelves with unconventional shapes and angles for a unique and playful aesthetic. - **Compact and Contained Storage:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the storage solutions industry by designing compact shelves with specific compartments for organizing books and other items in a neat yet unconventional way. ### Where This Applies - **Shelving Industry:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation by introducing unconventional designs and organizing principles that challenge traditional notions of neatness and order. - **Furniture Industry:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation by creating wall-mounted shelves with unconventional designs, shapes, and angles that showcase uniqueness and playful aesthetics. - **Storage Solutions Industry:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation by designing compact shelves with specific compartments and unconventional organizing methods to provide efficient and visually appealing storage options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md) - [Video Game-Like Bookcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetris-bookcase.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Speaker-Inspired Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lloyd-tex.md)
