# Facial Recognition Books This High-Tech Book Cover Scans Your Face to Unlock Its Contents By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2015-02-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/book-cover-design References: [ifitshipitshere](http://www.ifitshipitshere.com/book-cover-judges-using-facial-recognition-unlock/) & [thijsbiersteker](http://www.thijsbiersteker.com/) The product of combining [biometric security technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultraloq-smart-home-locks) with a book cover design is 'The Cover that Judges You' by artist Thijs Biersteker. With this novel design, the tables are turned—rather than judging a book by its cover, the book checks you out instead. But before you can even get a peek at the contents of this book, the cover does a scan of your emotions using [facial recognition technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/facial-recognition-security), to see if there are any [signs of judgement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emteq-labs-sense). After this, the tech inside the book's cover sends an audio pulse to internal hardware to indicate if it should be opened or not. Biersteker notes: "I often worry about my skepticism and judgement getting in my way of amazement," so the only way that the book will open is if it detects a neutral expression that's free of bias. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Biometric Security:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in developing advanced biometric security technology for various applications. - **Facial Recognition:** The integration of facial recognition technology in diverse industries can lead to disruptive innovation in personalized experiences and security measures. - **Emotion Detection:** The use of emotion detection technology presents disruptive innovation possibilities in areas such as mental health, marketing, and entertainment. ### Who This Affects Most - **Publishing:** The publishing industry can explore innovative book cover designs and incorporate biometric technology to enhance reader experiences and engagement. - **Security:** The security industry can leverage facial recognition technology to revolutionize access control systems and improve overall safety and surveillance measures. - **Entertainment:** In the entertainment industry, there is an opportunity to create immersive experiences by incorporating emotion detection technology for personalized content recommendations and interactive storytelling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Facial Recognition Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-lock-ultra-vision.md) - [High-Tech Residential Security Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-security-system.md) - [AI-Powered Laptop Lock Detections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vivobook-s-15.md) - [Smartphone-Concealing Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gatbook.md) - [Futuristic Palm-Scna Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-d2-pro.md) - [Biometric Scanner Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockly-flex-touch.md) - [Palm-Recognizing Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phillips-palmlock.md) - [Electronic 3D Book Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bbook.md) - [Biometric Bank-Grade Door Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/securam-touch.md)
