# Terrorist-Proof Toilets Russia Set to Debut Bombproof Public Bathrooms by the End of the Year By Michael Hines | Published 2011-06-11 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bombproof-public-toilets References: [dvice](http://dvice.com/archives/2011/06/russians-buildi.php) & [theage.au](http://www.theage.com.au/world/russias-superloo-built-to-contain-terror-blasts-20110608-1fsx6.html) Russia is the first country developing the world's first bombproof public toilets. The toilets will be made out of steel and reinforced plastic and mounted to floors in [reinforced concrete](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plan-b-1). Russia may not seem like a country that needs bombproof public toilets, but it wasn't so long ago that a young man blew himself up in a Russian airport terminal, killing himself and 37 others. Due to the various ethnic tensions and civil war within Chechnya, installing bombproof public toilets doesn't sound like a bad idea. The toilets are not all business however, as they will provide a respite from the notoriously cold Russian winter, besing heated to a toasty 61 degrees. Users of the toilets will only have a limited amount of time to enjoy the warmth as an alarm will sound after someone has been inside longer than 30 minutes. Now that's what I call security. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Bombproof Toilets:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop bombproof infrastructure solutions to enhance public safety in high-risk areas. - **Heated Public Toilets:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create heated public toilet solutions to offer comfort and warmth in cold climates. - **Time-limited Restrooms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design time-limited public restrooms equipped with alarms to optimize usage and increase efficiency. ### Where This Applies - **Infrastructure:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce bombproof infrastructure technologies for high-risk areas such as airports, train stations, and public venues. - **Public Facilities:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced public restroom solutions to enhance sanitation, comfort, and security. - **Smart Building Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create intelligent building systems integrating time-limited features and alarm systems for various applications. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Public Artful Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hiroo-east-park.md) - [Lavatory Travel Guides](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/encycloopedia.md) - [Inflatable Portable Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airpot.md) - [Water-Free Telescoping Toilet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clesana-x1.md) - [Brutalist Smart Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formation-02.md) - [Enclosed Japanese Park Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toiletowa.md) - [Smart Toilet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-toilets.md) - [Martian Toilet Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/martian-toilet.md) - [Sustainable Timber-Made Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodio-block-toilet.md)
