# Portable Bomb Detectors The CBD-100 Uses Wave Radars to Identify Suicide Bomb Threats By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2016-02-19 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bomb-detector References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/cbd-100-detector-suicide-bomber/41910/) & [share.sandia.gov](https://share.sandia.gov/news/resources/news_releases/bomb_detector/) The CBD-100 is an innovative and high-tech bomb detector device that is designed to back up and supplement existing security procedures, many of which are reliant on [metal detectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-detector1). This contraption, which is about the size of a box of cereal, is mounted on a tripod when in use. It works by bouncing wave signals off people and analyzing polarized signals to assess whether the person may be carrying a bomb with them. It only takes 1.3 seconds to analyze each individual, and can work from a distance of 2.7 meters. The current version of the device requires the assessed individual to be stationary, but future versions are expected to be able to scan [people on the move](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peoplesensing-software) and from greater distances. The CMD-100 bomb detector is attracting interest from several governments and airport authorities, and could help save lives by making it more difficult than ever for people to commit suicide bombings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 8% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Science](https://www.trendhunter.com/science) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Portable Bomb-detection Technology:** The CBD-100 device demonstrates potential for portable bomb-detection systems that could supplement existing metal detectors in security procedures. - **Hand-held Security Technology:** Future versions of the CBD-100 device are expected to be hand-held, increasing the flexibility and mobility of bomb-detection security measures. - **Wave Radar Technology:** The CBD-100 device demonstrates the potential of wave radar systems in detecting suicide bomb threats and can spark the development of more advanced applications of the technology in security measures. ### Where This Applies - **Security:** The portable bomb-detection technology demonstrated by the CBD-100 device can be applied in various security-centered industries, such as law enforcement, government, and transportation sectors. - **Technology:** Wave radar technology, like that used by the CBD-100 device, has disruptive innovation opportunities in fields beyond security and can be applied to various industries, such as healthcare, communications, and meteorology. - **Manufacturing:** The development and production of portable, hand-held versions of the CBD-100 device is expected to create opportunities in the manufacturing industry for companies aiming to provide advanced and flexible security solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Portable Drone Detectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dedrone.md) - [Hidden Camera Detector Keychains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-hidden-camera-detector.md) - [Ruggedly Intuitive Geiger Counters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radiation-detector.md) - [Autonomous Mine Detection Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mine-detector-robot.md) - [Spy Bug-Detecting Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bughunter-professional-bh04.md) - [Narcotic-Identifying Drug Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rigaku.md) - [Contraband-Detecting Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narc-robot-concept.md) - [Axis Security Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/product-design-consultants-developing-a-xray-scanner-system.md) - [Portable Brain Scanners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mwi-brain-scanner.md)
