A stunning piece of work that deals in the abstract, it is made up of a [pile wood blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chunks-and-blocks) that look as though they are going to topple over at any moment. Overlapping in a seemingly impossible way, the furniture piece defies logic in more than a few ways. Comissioned by Glocal Design Magazine and Masisa brand for the opening of the Design Week Mexico 2012, specifically the exhibition 'Hecho en México,' Boleanos by Joel Escalona is a stunning design. The designer explored the concepts of construction and de-construction through the use of materials finishes. It is made out of Masisa boards. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: South America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Abstract Furniture Design:** Opportunity to explore unconventional and eye-catching designs in the furniture industry. - **Creative Use of Materials:** Opportunity to experiment with unique material finishes and constructions. - **Functionality Versatility:** Opportunity to design furniture that can serve more than one purpose and cater to small spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunity for furniture manufacturers to collaborate with designers and create innovative designs. - **Material Production:** Opportunity for material production companies to experiment with new finishes and constructions. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate unique and versatile furniture pieces in their designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Modular Configuration Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repisa-01.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Simple Assembly Sustainable Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/svolta.md) - [Dynamic Architecturally Strong Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogma.md) - [Jigsaw Puzzle-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Japanese Woodwork-Inspired Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altitude-shelving.md)
