# Versatile Slotted Shelving The B-OK by Marica Vizzuso Folds Out into a Room Divider By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bok-by-marica-vizzuso References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/an-interesting-way-to-store-books-bookshelf-tower-and-divider-by-marica-vizzuso/) The B-OK by Marica Vizzuso, a young industrial designer hailing from Italy, is a unique shelving system that rethinks the look and function of more traditional ones. Similar to CD and DVD towers, the book shelf is made out of a series of asymmetrical slots that allow people to store their readings more conveniently and artistically. Very modern, the aesthetic is almost digital with a crafty flair. The designer writes, "Why do you place books in a conventional way when you can have both an amusing and aesthetically interesting alternative?" The crowning feature of B-OK by Marica Vizzuso, however, is the fact that it can be converted from a classic four-sided tower into a room divider. It unfolds to create an even more dynamic decor piece in the home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Asymmetrical Shelving:** The B-OK by Marica Vizzuso showcases the trend of asymmetrical shelving, offering a convenient and artistic way to store books. - **Versatile Furniture:** The ability of B-OK to transform from a bookshelf into a room divider highlights the trend of versatile furniture, providing dynamic decor options. - **Digital Craftmanship:** The digital aesthetic with a crafty flair of the B-OK reflects the trend of combining digital design elements with traditional craftsmanship. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** The B-OK's unique shelving design offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the interior design industry, allowing for more creative and customized storage solutions. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The versatile nature of B-OK presents disruptive innovation possibilities in the furniture manufacturing industry, as it brings together functionality and style in a single product. - **Home Decor:** The B-OK's fusion of digital aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the home decor industry, catering to the modern consumer's desire for unique and visually appealing pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Configuration Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repisa-01.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Adaptable Flat-Pack Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-pack-shelving.md) - [Flexible Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbox-modular-shelving.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Versatile Office Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combus-shelving-system.md)
