# Curvaceous Sculptural Loungers The Bodice Rocker by SplinterWorks is Sensually Lightweight By Meghan Young | Published 2013-09-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bodice-rocker References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/09/22/bodice-rocker-by-splinterworks/) & [splinterworks](http://www.splinterworks.co.uk/) The Bodice Rocker is a stunning example of bridging the gap between art and furniture. A [sculptural seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archetypes) is there ever was one, it hugs every curve of the body as though it were a glove. Although the form of the Bodice Rocker is rather suggestive, it is its sensual nature that adds another element of allure to the visually striking creation. Sculpted by [Splinter Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coastal-house) founder and artist Matt Withington, the Bodice Rocker was brought to life by co-founder Miles Hartwell, who added a special touch of his own. As written on Contemporist, "[W]ith a light touch, [the Bodice Rocker] [gently rocks back](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair) and pauses mid-air, as if weightless, inciting a double-take by seeming to defy the pull of gravity." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculptural Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to create visually striking furniture that blurs the line between art and practicality. - **Sensory Design:** An opportunity to create furniture that not only focuses on practicality but also on the senses, such as touch, sight, and sound. - **Weightless Rocking Furniture:** Innovative possibility for designers to create furniture that creates a floating sensation and defies gravity. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Luxury Furniture Design:** An opportunity for the luxury furniture industry to incorporate sensual and visually appealing designs in their products. - **Interior Design:** Possibility for designers to add a unique piece of furniture that blends art and functionality in their interior design projects. - **Art Market:** Potential for artists to create sculptural works that transcend art into furniture and a new market for collectors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md) - [Voluptuous Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/voluptuous-seating.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Functional Decorative Rocking Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rool-stool.md) - [Anatomical Lounge Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/himalaya-pelvis-chair.md) - [Timeless Contemporary Dynamic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bodo-sperlein.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Fabric-Wrapped Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zhe-rocking-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md)
