# Blu-Fi Bluetooth Partners with Wi-Fi for Better Performance By Ayman | Published 2008-02-13 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluetooth-wi-fi References: [news.wired](http://news.wired.com/dynamic/stories/B/BLUETOOTH_WI_FI?SITE=WIRE&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2008-02-10-13-52-12) What an exciting development. Bluetooth is going to get a whole lot faster next year by taking advantage of Wi-Fi technology already built into many gadgets. Linking Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (or Blu-Fi, as I am dubbing it) will enable faster transfer of large files between gadgets. For example, transferring songs between computers and mobiles, pictures between mobiles and printers, or video from a camcorder to a TV. Michael Foley, director of the [Bluetooth Special Interest Group](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluetooth-special-interest-group), said the first devices with the technology could be on the market in the middle of next year. A fast transfer channel for Bluetooth using a different radio technology, ultra-wideband, was announced in 2006, but delays in getting it to work prompted the Bluetooth group to look at Wi-Fi. Some products, like laptops, already combine Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions, but they work off separate chips. Now a single chip will combine Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Blu-fi Technology:** The integration of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology will revolutionize file transfer speeds between devices. - **Faster Large File Transfers:** Blu-Fi will enable speedy transfer of songs, pictures, and videos between gadgets, eliminating long wait times. - **Single Chip Integration:** The development of a single chip combining Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities will streamline device functionality and reduce hardware complexity. ### Who This Affects Most - **Consumer Electronics:** Consumer electronics manufacturers can leverage Blu-Fi technology to enhance the performance and functionality of their products. - **E-commerce:** E-commerce platforms can benefit from Blu-Fi by enabling faster and more efficient transfer of large files, enhancing the customer experience. - **Print and Media:** The print and media industry can leverage Blu-Fi technology to streamline the transfer of files between devices, improving workflow efficiency and reducing production time. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Accessibility-Focused Wireless Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluetooth-special-interest-group.md) - [Low-Energy Wireless Connectivity Standards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluetooth-le-audio.md) - [Speed-Enhanced Wi-Fi Chips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fastconnect-7800.md) - [Connectivity Expansion Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gc-wifi7.md) - [Audio-Upgrading Smartphone Transmitters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fiio-bt11.md) - [Bluetooth Broadcasting Dongles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twelve-south-airfly-2.md) - [Efficient Wireless Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-halow-technology.md) - [Audio-Elevating Bluetooth Modules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluetooth-module.md) - [Automotive Digital Key Enhancements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/channel-sounding.md)
