The spirit is a [small-batch whiskey](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/limitedproduction-bourbon) that balances the flavors of a base whiskey with that of older wood heat-style whiskeys to provide drinkers with a complex final product. The spirit is thus a blend of nine-year-old, eight-year-old and six-year-old expressions, which come in at 32%, 22% and 46% of the composition, respectively. Director Shaylyn Gammon spoke further on the process behind the Blue Run Trifecta Kentucky Straight Bourbon and barrels saying, "These [higher-proofed barrels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highproof-bourbon), in turn, extract more of the components of the wood from the barrel that can contribute a particular wood intensity to the whiskey, which needs to be approached with a knowledgeable, restrained hand when blending.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 1% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 17% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Drinking](https://www.trendhunter.com/drinking) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Small-batch Whiskey:** The trend of small-batch whiskeys allows distilleries to create unique and complex flavor profiles. - **Blended Expressions:** Blended expressions like Blue Run Trifecta Kentucky Straight Bourbon offer a layered taste experience by combining different aged whiskeys. - **Wood Barrel Extraction:** The trend of using higher-proofed barrels for whiskey aging allows for a more intense wood flavor to be imparted into the final product. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Distilleries:** Distilleries can take advantage of the trend of small-batch whiskeys and blended expressions to create innovative and sought-after spirits. - **Craft Beverage:** The craft beverage industry can benefit from the popularity of small-batch and blended whiskeys, offering consumers unique and flavorful options. - **Barrel Manufacturing:** Barrel manufacturers have an opportunity to meet the demand for high-proof barrels, catering to distilleries looking to extract intense wood flavors in their spirits. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Aged Bourbon Tiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wilderness-trail.md) - [Limited-Production Bourbon Whiskeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tailgate-spirits.md) - [Grain-To-Glass Whiskey Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heaven-hill.md) - [Globally Blended Refined Whiskies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/angels-envy-triple-oak.md) - [Chestnut-Forward Whiskeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jameson-triple-triple-chestnut-edition.md) - [Savory Spicy Bourbon Whiskeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/8yearold-kentucky-straight-bourbon-whiskey.md) - [Satisfying Bourbon Expressions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hidden-barn-bourbon.md) - [Blues Music-Honoring Bourbon Whiskeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-note-bourbon.md) - [Collaborative Straight Bourbon Whiskeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collaborative-straight-bourbon-whiskey.md)
