# Chair-Bed Hybrids The Blend Bed by Mieke Meijer Offers Multiple Functions By Katherinev123 | Published 2009-12-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blend-bed References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2009/12/11/blend-by-mieke-meijer/) & [miekedingen.nl](http://www.miekedingen.nl/) Ask Dutch designer Mieke Meijer what the influence was behind her creation the Blend bed, and she’ll tell you that it was how people slept in the 17th century. You see, the Blend bed is a unique fusion between a bed and a chair, and refers to how people would sleep in a semi-sitting position long, long ago. Apparently, sleeping laying down was associated with death (yikes). The Blend bed features a [wooden frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/same-same) that is fused with two chairs at each of its sides. The chairs can also function as night tables. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 1% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Chair-bed Hybrids:** The Blend Bed by Mieke Meijer offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for the furniture industry by combining the functions of a bed and a chair. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore the potential of chair-bed hybrids, like the Blend Bed, to create multifunctional and space-saving solutions for modern living spaces. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can incorporate chair-bed hybrids, such as the Blend Bed, to offer versatile and stylish furniture options for homes and hotels. - **Hospitality:** The hospitality industry can benefit from chair-bed hybrids, like the Blend Bed, to provide comfortable and flexible sleeping arrangements for guests in hotels and Airbnb accommodations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comforting Adaptable Sofa Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-bird-reincarnation-3way-sofa-bed.md) - [Versatile Hybrid Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luna-hybridlounger.md) - [Adventurous Versatile Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat.md) - [Hybrid Sit-Stand Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lean-on-chair-concept.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Vibrant Chaise Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versarest.md) - [Modern Multifunctional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campeggi.md) - [Sleek Multipurpose Crib Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crib-design.md) - [Hybrid Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adaptable-sofa-system.md)
