# Frightful Fantasy Art Blaz Porenta Transforms Fairytales into Nightmarish Illustrated Realities By Jason Soy | Published 2011-11-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blaz-porenta References: [lacarpa.tumblr](http://lacarpa.tumblr.com/post/12784683191/chapeuzinho-vermelho-do-ilustrador-eslovenio-blaz#n) & [blazporenta.blogspot](http://blazporenta.blogspot.com/) When the Brothers Grimm and other [fairytale authors told their narratives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fairy-tales-world-kid-stories) centuries ago, I'm sure the kind of shock and imagery they were trying to instill into children's heads looked something like these Blaz Porenta illustrations. After all, what better way to get children to obey cautionary advice than through sheer fear? Blaz Porenta exclusively renders each popular prepubescent story in this horrifying manner with each illustration. The Slovenian artist is a master of fantasy painting, and has a penchant for visuals that inspire gasps of terror and looks of dread. It doesn't really matter who or what the subject is, Porenta's signature style always shines through. It's no wonder then that Blaz Porenta's work lends itself so well to [video games and comic books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scope-creep). The talented visionary has even illustrated a series based on [Marvel Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masters-of-anatomy)' most prized superheroes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Horror-style Illustrations:** The trend of creating terrifying illustrations inspired by fairytales and fantasy stories presents opportunities for artists and designers to tap into the demand for dark and edgy visuals. - **Cross-media Adaptation:** The trend of adapting horror-style illustrations into video games and comic books opens up opportunities for collaboration between artists, writers, and developers to create immersive and chilling storytelling experiences across different mediums. - **Fear as a Motivational Tool:** The trend of using fear and shock in storytelling, as seen in Blaz Porenta's artwork, provides opportunities for marketers and content creators to create impactful campaigns that evoke strong emotions and leave a lasting impression on audiences. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can leverage the trend of horror-style illustrations to cater to the growing demand for dark and macabre visuals in various artistic mediums. - **Gaming:** The gaming industry can capitalize on the cross-media adaptation trend by incorporating horror-style illustrations into games, creating a unique and immersive gaming experience that appeals to fans of dark and horror genres. - **Publishing and Entertainment:** The publishing and entertainment industries can explore the trend of fear as a motivational tool by incorporating horror-style illustrations and storytelling techniques into novels, comics, movies, and TV shows, effectively engaging audiences and leaving a lasting impact. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Horrific Beer-Themed Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garage-beer.md) - [Storybook-Inspired Fragrances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mischief-academy.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Curated Horror Subscriptions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-tales-of-the-weird.md) - [Equitable Fairy Tale Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fair-tales-by-odeabank.md) - [Horror Film Fragrances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-scent-of-a-nightmare.md) - [Haunting Gaming Adventures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hauntii-xbox-game.md) - [Anime Horror-Style Reimaginations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork.md)
