# Carefully Contrasted Apartments This Black and White Apartment Will Appeal Minimalist Design Fans By David Ingram | Published 2015-08-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-and-white-apartment References: [minimalissimo](http://minimalissimo.com/black-white-apartment/) & [crosby-studios](http://www.crosby-studios.com/) The team behind [Crosby Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silencio-nyc) were able to strike a perfect balance in their re-design of this [black and white apartment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-est) located in the heart of the Russian capital. Through careful consideration, this 64 square meter space gives off an aura of reserved sophistication with its contrasting color palette and balanced overall symmetry. Besides the white walls and dark colored accents found throughout the home, the [exposed raw concrete ceiling](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fj-apartment) also calls back to the history of the building, and keeps this apartment from becoming just another typical run of the mill modern home. Metal and glass doors help to divide and distinguish both the social and the private spaces in the home. Finally, the furniture and decoration that is present was envisioned and planned for from the initial conception of the project, and as such perfectly complement the overall design motif. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Contrasting Design:** Designing spaces with contrasting color palettes and balanced symmetry for a sophisticated look. - **Exposure of Raw Materials:** Incorporating raw materials like concrete into design to add character and reference the history of buildings. - **Planned Furniture and Decoration:** Envisioning and planning furniture and decoration from the beginning of projects to perfectly complement overall design motifs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Innovating and differentiating interior design through the use of contrasting color palettes, raw materials, and planned furniture. - **Real Estate:** Creating unique and memorable living spaces to increase property value and appeal to minimalist design fans. - **Architecture:** Incorporating the history and character of buildings into modern architecture to create unique living spaces with a sense of place. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bathroom-Centric Dubai Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bone-studio.md) - [Ultra-Slick Modern Apartment Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-apartment-interior.md) - [Chic Monochrome Co-Working Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monochrome-coworking-space.md) - [Industrial-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glassbrick-apartment.md) - [Vibrant Milanese Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/milanese-apartment.md) - [Whimsical Vibrantly Decorated Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daria-vasilkova.md) - [Nostalgic 70s-Inspired Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-special-studio.md) - [Monochrome Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grigio-verde.md) - [Refined Urban Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/primrose-apartment.md)
