# Maniacal Character Graffiti Mr. Thoms Paints Incredibly Bizarre Street Art By Sarah Dos Santos | Published 2013-09-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bizarre-street-art References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/09/mr-thoms-street-art/) & [thoms.it](http://www.thoms.it/) The highly talented Rome-based artist Mr. Toms paints very bizarre [street art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-pics). He illustrates several maniacal characters with overemphasized features. The artist does everything from writing, painting and sculpting to film-making, graphic designing and illustrating. One of his greatest talents is his ability to incorporate elements of the natural surrounding to each of his paintings—making the backdrop a natural environment to sprout his characters from. What used to be an abandoned wall with a hole for drainage is now a demented, enlarged drooling man’s face. In another image, he uses the jutting corners of a wall to add dimension to a giant pill-loving character whose brain is on fire. What used to be an average [subway tunnel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masterpeace-painting) is now a giant hungry face that’s ready to devour the city’s trash. The images are disturbingly maniacal and full of so much detail they almost come to life. Mr. Toms’ work uses [graffiti art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rusto) to broaden our imaginations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Customization](https://www.trendhunter.com/customization) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Bizarre Street Art:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation to incorporate natural elements in street art. - **Overemphasized Character Illustrations:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation to create large-scale illustrations of eccentric characters. - **Graffiti Art for Imagination:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation to expand the boundaries of graffiti art for imaginative expressions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Fine Arts:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the fine arts industry to introduce eccentricity and imagination in street art. - **Graphic Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the graphic design industry to create large-scale illustrations of eccentric characters. - **Entertainment:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the entertainment industry to incorporate eccentric street art in film, music videos, and event decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Doodle-Emblazoned Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sam-cox.md) - [Evolved Vibrant Graffiti Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jan-kalb.md) - [Digital Graffiti NFTs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graffiti-wall-collection.md) - [Enigmatic Graffiti Incidents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enigmatic-graffiti.md) - [Spectral Painting-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thomme-collection.md) - [Bubblegum Street Art Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubbabubbabuilding.md) - [Hyper-Realistic Flesh Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Glowing Movie Campaign Murals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mural.md)
