The Bishop Edward King Chapel is almost entirely white on the inside and any observer's gaze will be moved steadily upward with the curves of the interior. Designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects, the Bishop Edward King Chapel is a marvel of design that manages to feel unlike most contemporary churches. The direction of the project was heavily inspired by the word ‘nave’ being hidden at the of the poem 'Lightenings viii' by Seamus Heaney, as well as ships, and sought to create a gathering place for both sound and light. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Romance](https://www.trendhunter.com/romance) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Literature-inspired Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to incorporate literary elements in their designs, creating unique and thought-provoking spaces. - **Contemplative Design:** Designing spaces that promote introspection and mindfulness, catering to the growing trend of self-care. - **Minimalist Aesthetics:** The rise of minimalism in design, characterized by simplicity, cleanliness, and a focus on the essentials. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architecture firms to experiment with unique design elements, creating spaces that are both functional and striking. - **Religious Institutions:** The use of contemplative design can improve the spiritual experience for worshippers and provide a competitive edge for attracting and retaining members. - **Interior Design:** Trend towards use of minimalist aesthetic can create opportunities for interior designers to create spaces that are functional, beautiful, and promote well-being. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hillside Timber Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapel-of-st-thrse-of-lisieux.md) - [Metaphorical Physical Community Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighthouse-church.md) - [Building-Nestled Compact Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapel-cafe.md) - [Modern Tuscan Chapel Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pailunga-tuscan-chapel.md) - [Reflection-Encouraging Cohesive Churches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hjvangen-church.md) - [Fluted Concrete-Added Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/st-marys-coptic-church.md) - [Sacred Timber Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-church-tolvkanten.md) - [Compact Urban Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-chapel.md) - [Inverted Boat Chapels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-barca.md)
