# Dominoes-Inspired Furniture The Birk Table Takes Cues from the Box the Tiles are Held In By Meghan Young | Published 2016-03-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birk-table References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/birk-coffee-table-prototype-iselin-lindmark-dubland/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) The Birk Table is not your average living room furniture piece. Although it does rest on the simple side of the design spectrum, it features some unusual details that not only set it apart, but also come in quite handy. The Birk Table is inspired by domino boxes, hence its [hollow body](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taarof-table). But instead of storing dominoes inside of it (which a person can do if they should so desire) it can hold everything from magazines to laptops and so much more. Designed by Iselin Lindmark Dubland, the Birk Table is currently a prototype. With its rounded edges and use of [wooden materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tidone), the [modern coffee table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polka-coffee-table) would fit into any contemporary living space with ease. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Domino-inspired Furniture:** Innovative furniture designs inspired by traditional games like Domino can disrupt the furniture industry and create unique and versatile products. - **Hollow Furniture:** Hollow furniture with multiple functional uses such as storage, tables, and lighting can offer increased functionality for smaller living spaces and inspire a new category of modern furniture. - **Wooden Minimalism:** The use of natural materials in minimalist furniture can create a sustainable movement aimed towards eco-conscious consumers seeking simplistic design options. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can experiment with innovative materials and concepts found in traditional games to create unique pieces that provide increased functionality. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate minimalist furniture that features natural materials, which offer versatility and options not often seen in traditional designs. - **Sustainable Living:** The creation of modern furniture from sustainable materials such as wood can support a lifestyle focused on conscious consumerism while meeting the needs of modern living. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playing Cards-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hito-table.md) - [Möbius Strip-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mbelius-coffee-table.md) - [Compact Functional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table.md) - [Minimalist Book Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-coffee-table.md) - [Curvaceous Animalistic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookpet-coffee-table.md) - [Bookshelf-Incorporated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overlap-table.md) - [Puzzling Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linked-side-table.md) - [Paper-Like Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-coffee-table.md) - [Asymmetrical Storage Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crossbred-side-table.md)
