The shipping trucks feature [solar panels on the top](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-race-vehicle) that will harness the power of the sun during transportation, which is converted using Sunswap's advanced battery technology. The equipment will thus power the [refrigeration system inside the truck](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/single-glass-door-freezers) and reportedly cut down on emissions by 24 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. General Manager of [Birds Eye UK&IE](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plant-based-billboard) Shaun Smith spoke on the new Birds Eye shipping trucks saying, "We’re delighted to be working with DFDS and Sunswap to help reduce the environmental impact of our operations. As the UK’s leader in quality frozen food, we have a responsibility to drive innovation throughout our supply chain. Sunswap’s proven electric technology enables us to maintain the highest standards of temperature-controlled transport while helping reduce our carbon emissions. It’s fitting that the technology we’re now using to support the running of these trailers uses the same sun that ripens our peas to perfection in the field, keeping our products frozen at their peak as they start their journey to millions of UK homes.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 39% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Transportation](https://www.trendhunter.com/transportation) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Solar-energy Logistical Solutions:** Innovations in solar-powered logistics offer sustainable alternatives, reducing carbon emissions extensively in the logistical sector. - **Renewable-powered Refrigeration:** Utilizing renewable energy to power refrigeration units presents revolutionized advancements in sustainable supply chains. - **Battery-integrated Solar Systems:** The combination of solar panels with advanced battery technology provides a disruptive energy solution for commercial transportation. - **Green Transport Ecosystems:** The fusion of transportation and renewable energy systems is reshaping how companies approach sustainable operations. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Logistics:** The logistics industry is undergoing significant transformation with the integration of renewable energy solutions to reduce operational carbon footprints. - **Renewable Energy:** Advancements in renewable energy applications are enabling more industries to adopt eco-friendly practices, particularly in transportation. - **Cold Chain Supply:** Solar-powered technology in cold chain logistics opens up new pathways for sustainable temperature-controlled shipping solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Medium-Duty Delivery Trucks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/greenpower.md) - [Solar-Powered Cargo Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-electric-van.md) - [Sustainable Cold Shipping Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carrier-transicold.md) - [Electric Food Delivery Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giant-delivers.md) - [Battery-Powered Food Trucks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecofriendly-food-truck-generators.md) - [Solar-Powered Bike Deliveries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunrider-1.md) - [Electric Freight Networks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-freight.md) - [Frozen Food Transportation Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/food-transportation.md) - [Accelerated Freezing Shipment Packs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydropac-hydrofreeze-ice-pack-range.md)
