It's not everyday that a person experiences an emergency that requires the use or understanding of the safety measures in one's home such as the [traditional smoke detector](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notifier-inspire); but if and when that emergency comes, a person would much rather have something like the Birdi Smart Air Monitor on hand. Easier to control and read than common devices, it not only detects smoke, it also reads [carbon dioxide levels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-meter-pro), connects to the internet and makes calls.

Designed by New York-based Mark Belinsky and Justin Alvey, the Birdi Smart Air Monitor is conveniently controlled by smartphones. Belinsky points out, "[Indoor pollution](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hafi) is two to eight times more dangerous than outside pollution." By installing the Birdi Smart Air Monitor, the danger is significantly decreased.
