Bindis -- decorative red dots worn on the forehead -- are ubiquitous in India, and are widely worn by many Hindu women. Now, India-based Neelvasant Medical Foundation and ad agency [Grey Group Singapore](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lifebuoy) have teamed up to come up with the [Life Saving Dot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayurvedic-skincare-brand), a bindi doped with iodine.

Iodine deficiency can result in a variety of problems including fibrocystic breast disease, breast cancer and birth complications. While many people make up for this deficiency by consuming [iodized salt](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/goyal-salt) or iodine supplements, this is not an option for many people in the rural hinterlands of the developing world.

The program has been distributing iodine-doped bindis to women in medical camps and rural areas where such nutritional aid is especially urgent. This is a magnificent example of how health outcomes can be improved non-intrusively, using ingenious solutions that people don't find a hassle to implement in their daily lives.
