# Beautifully Branching Bookshelves Bilbao by Sebastian Errazuriz Brings Nature into the Home By Meghan Young | Published 2016-01-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bilbao-by-sebastian-errazuriz References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/sebastian-errazuriz-bilbao-tree-shelf) & [meetsebastian](http://www.meetsebastian.com/) Bilbao by Sebastian Errazuriz is a [bookshelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life) that belongs in the home of a woodland creature. Designed to look just like a [bare tree](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roots-collection-1), it branches to one side to provide level limbs to rest a number of objects on from actual books to home decor. Yet as practical as the design is, there is a whimsical energy about it that expresses the desire people have for furniture that does more than serve a single purpose. Interestingly, Bilbao by Sebastian Errazuriz is made using [actual branches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/genipadu-sideboard). Yet since the material has been smoothed and given a black finish with a matte sheen, it looks more like a manmade sculpture. Modern and polished, in a way it is. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Nature-inspired Furniture:** Designing furniture with natural elements like branches and trees provides a unique and visually stunning approach to home decor. - **Multi-purpose Furniture:** Furniture that can serve more than one purpose, such as acting both as a bookshelf and home decor, provides consumers with practicality and functionality. - **Whimsical Energy Design:** Designing furniture with a touch of whimsical energy adds personality to an otherwise practical piece, making it more visually appealing to consumers. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** Retailers of home decor could incorporate nature-inspired furniture lines and promote the practicality and design of multi-purpose home items. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers could incorporate nature-inspired furniture like the Bilbao bookshelf into their designs to add whimsical energy and multi-functional use in their clients' homes. - **Furniture Design and Manufacturing:** Furniture designers and manufacturers could experiment with incorporating natural elements in their products to add a touch of unique design and practicality for consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Ceiba Tree-Inspired Spiked Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceiba-series.md) - [Forest-Inspired Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayashi-cabinet.md) - [Twisting CGI-Designed Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookscrew-sideboard.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md)
