# Uber-Cushioned Bike Wheels The 'Loopwheel' Replaces Spokes with Loops for a Smooth Ride By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-05-22 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bike-wheels References: [springwise](http://www.springwise.com/spokeless-wheels-bring-full-suspension-foldable-bikes/) & [kickstarter](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1205277475/loopwheels-for-a-smoother-more-comfortable-bicycle) Replacing [conventional spokes in bike wheels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/composite-spokes), looped bands in the 'Loopwheel' create an incredibly smooth ride. By replacing bike spokes with a looped spring system, 'Loopwheel' is essentially adding additional suspension through the wheels of a bike. The wheels were built for [folding bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bromptons-g-line) that do not have the benefit of a suspension system. By adding suspension through the portable bike's wheels, commuters can have the convenience of a folding bike without sacrificing comfort. Made of a carbon composite material, the springs work to provide tangential suspension while only adding 300g to the weight of the bike. This means that the suspension works in every direction. As a result, the wheels allow your bike to take on curbs and [extreme terrain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cycultra) with ease. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Loopwheel Suspension:** The looped spring system in 'Loopwheel' creates additional suspension in bike wheels, providing a smoother ride. - **Carbon Composite Bike Parts:** The use of carbon composite materials in 'Loopwheel' opens up opportunities for more durable and lightweight bike parts. - **Portable Bike Innovation:** 'Loopwheel' addresses the need for more comfortable, portable bikes, creating opportunities for further innovation in this space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Bicycle Manufacturing:** 'Loopwheel' offers a unique and innovative approach to bike wheel design, creating new opportunities in the bicycle manufacturing industry. - **Commuter Tech:** By providing a more comfortable ride for commuters, 'Loopwheel' opens up opportunities for innovation in the commuter tech industry. - **Composite Materials Manufacturing:** 'Loopwheel' utilizes a carbon composite material, creating opportunities for innovation in composite material manufacturing for various industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wheel-Wedging Folding Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheel-wedging-folding-bicycle.md) - [Vibration-Absorbing Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beltdrive-ebike.md) - [Hubless Airless eBikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/topsecret-ebike.md) - [Full-Suspension Foldable E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eole-x-pro.md) - [Tread-Wheel Geometric Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-q.md) - [Triangle-Shaped Bicycle Wheels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangleshaped-bicycle.md) - [Rugged Full-Suspension E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fullsuspension-ebike.md) - [Unconventional E-Bike Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendler.md) - [Real-Time Tire Pressure Adjusters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scope-atmoz-system.md)
