# Coiling Bike Accessories The Plume Bike Mudguard is a Chic Way of Protecting Your Butt By Ian Andrew Panganiban | Published 2013-05-21 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bike-mudguard References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/another_minimalist_mudguard_the_plume_rolls_out_on_kickstarter_24896.asp) & [kickstarter](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/886290383/plume-the-recoiling-bicycle-mudguard) One thing about owning a bike that people rarely mention is how dirty your behind can get when you’re peddling down a muddy or wet road, but luckily this bike mudguard will alleviate all worries of a soiled bum. Plume is a [recoiling bike mudguard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coilo) that’s designed to accentuate the design features of any [bicycle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bromptons-g-line), as well as protect you from being soiled by the elements on the road. The mudguard conveniently coils up in a roll when there’s no need for it and can be removed very easily. The bike mudguard houses a sleek sophisticated design that looks immensely better than those homemade water bottle flaps that people often showcase down the streets. The design of the mudguard looks like an extended seat of the bike, but I wouldn’t recommend sitting on it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Recoiling Bike Accessories:** The Plume Bike Mudguard introduces a chic and convenient recoiling design, setting a trend for bike accessories that combine style and functionality. - **Design-enhancing Bike Accessories:** The sleek design of the Plume Bike Mudguard highlights a trend in bike accessories that not only offer practical use but also enhance the overall aesthetic of the bicycle. - **Convenient Bike Protection:** The easy-to-install and removable feature of the Plume Bike Mudguard reflects a trend in bike accessories that prioritize convenience and efficiency in protecting riders from road elements. ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Recreation:** The recoiling design of the Plume Bike Mudguard presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the outdoor recreation industry, by combining style and convenience for bikers. - **Cycling Equipment:** The sleek and design-enhancing features of the Plume Bike Mudguard offer disruptive innovation opportunities in the cycling equipment industry, catering to riders who seek both functionality and aesthetics. - **Sporting Goods:** The convenient and removable nature of the Plume Bike Mudguard opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the sporting goods industry, by providing a hassle-free solution for protecting bikers from road elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sweat-Blocking Cyclist Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rockbros-bike-sweat-guard.md) - [Rainproof Wheelchair Shells](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobidry.md) - [Hidden Seat Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockinvisible.md) - [Adaptable Foldable Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buzzy-bike.md) - [Compact License Plate Mounts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/license-plate-mount.md) - [Flatpack Cyclist Safety Equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-helmet-concept.md) - [Plastic-Forward Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rcyl-bike.md) - [Disappearing Umbrella Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coilo.md) - [Self-Inflating Bicycle Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bumpair-20.md)
