# Public Bike Benches Bharat Bargava's Unique Creation Encourages Energy-Saving Fitness By Meghan Young | Published 2011-06-19 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bharat-bargava References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/from_the_central_saint_martins_post-grad_design_show_bharat_bargavas_bike_bench_19630.asp) & [bdonline](http://www.bdonline.co.uk/comment/blogs/spatial-explorations-with-central-saint-martins/5020003.blog) Bharat Bargava's bike bench is clever for a number of reasons. It not only encourages a healthier lifestyle since it actually acts as a [stationary bike](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fit-bike-s), but it also brings awareness to [kinetic energy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelbench-krllermller-edition) and environmentally friendly ways of using such power. Bharat Bargava's bike bench does this by linking the pedaling of the built-in bike with the lamp post that rests above it. With each pedal, you actually power the light, therefore seeing the concrete results of your exertion. Since this is a [public bench](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-bench), it also helps keep your surroundings lit up safely. Although not necessarily a unique concept, Bharat Bargava's bench definitely shows how it can be used in public spaces. It was presented during the MA Industrial Design show. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Energy-generating Urban Furniture:** Creating urban furniture that generates energy through kinetic movement can encourage sustainability and active lifestyles. - **Smart Street Lighting:** Integrating street lighting with energy-generating technology can improve safety and reduce environmental impact. - **Technology-integrated Public Seating:** Developing public seating that incorporates technology can enhance user experience and promote a healthier lifestyle. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Urban Design:** Urban designers can use energy-generating technology to create sustainable public spaces that promote active lifestyles. - **Lighting:** Lighting companies can explore integrating energy-generating technology into their products to reduce environmental impact and save energy costs. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate technology into their designs to create innovative and sustainable public furniture that promotes healthy living. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Urban Solar Charging Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perovia.md) - [Rotating Solar Powered Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eness-1.md) - [Rotating Solar-Powered Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-solarpowered-bench-that-spins-ever-so-slowly.md) - [Regenerative Cycling Equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/energy-keeper.md) - [Muscle Loss-Combating Playground Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playground-bench.md) - [Kinetic Musical Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-bench.md) - [Traffic Light-Inspired Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traffic-light-bench.md) - [Productivity-Supporting Exercise Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acer-ekinekt-bd-3.md) - [Bold Motion Bench Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelbench-krllermller-edition.md)
