# Upcycled Coffee Pot Aquariums This DIY Betta Fish Tank Stays at a Consistently Warm Temperature By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-03-13 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/betta-fish-aquarium References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2013/03/11/Coffee-Pot-Heated-Aquarium/) & [robotsandcomputers](http://www.robotsandcomputers.com/robots/projects/cpfishtank.htm) In order to keep Betta fish alive and healthy, they need to be kept in warm water at temperatures that range between 74 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, which requires a special Betta fish aquarium. When he wanted to give these aquatic creatures as a pet to his girlfriend, Derek Trombello realized he would have to get inventive and create his own version of this heated fish tank. Going with the simple idea of a fairly inexpensive [coffee pot that is self-heating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-moky) and is already made of [clear glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ember-cold-tumbler), he hacked the mechanics to create an automatic heat setting. LED lights were fitted into the lid for a special glowing effect. This DIY Betta fish aquarium shows that ingenuity means not having to buy expensive equipment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Pets](https://www.trendhunter.com/pets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Upcycling Household Objects:** DIY enthusiasts are finding innovative ways to repurpose ordinary objects into functional items. - **Sustainable Pet Care:** Pet owners are looking for eco-friendly options to care for their pets, including repurposing household objects. - **Innovative Fish Tank Designs:** Designers are finding creative ways to improve the aesthetic appeal and practicality of fish tanks. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Diy/home Improvement:** The DIY industry has the opportunity to tap into the growing demand for upcycling and sustainable household projects. - **Pet Care:** Pet care companies have the opportunity to cater to the growing demand for eco-friendly pet products. - **Aquarium Industry:** Companies in the aquarium industry have the opportunity to create innovative and visually attractive fish tank designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Three-in-One Heated Water Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heated-water-cup.md) - [Temperature-Regulating Coffee Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cauldryn-coffee-pro.md) - [Compact Microclimate Terrariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microclimate-terrariums.md) - [Heated Espresso-Sized Coffee Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heated-espresso-cup.md) - [Repurposed Vintage Apple Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repurposed-vintage-apple-computers.md) - [Smart Temperature Control Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-temperature-control-technology.md) - [Coffee-Brewing Carafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miir-new-standard-carafe.md) - [Impressive DIY Terrariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-terrarium1.md) - [Smart Car Coffee Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roadpro-5027s.md)
