# Savage Animal Sculptures Beth Cavener Stichter Focuses on Human Psychology in a Wild Way By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beth-cavener-stichter References: [m.neatorama](http://m.neatorama.com/2012/08/18/Surreal-Animal-Sculptures-By-Beth-Cavener-Stichter/) & [followtheblackrabbit](http://www.followtheblackrabbit.com/) While some people already view typical animals as savage creatures, Beth Cavener Stichter takes it to a whole new level. The talented artist portrays animals in a surreal manner, acting in ways they would not normally act. From french-kissing animals to awkwardly posed ones, the sculptures are incredibly detailed. Yet this detail doesn't make them look like the real deal. Instead, they look like real-life versions of sketches found in children books. Made out of raw clay, Beth Cavener Stichter's works of art all have a rough touch that is not often typical of such sculptures. Full of texture and natural beauty, there is a majestic quality about each animal that is not tarnished by its savageness. If anything, it is heightened because of that wild element. Beth Cavener Stichter writes, "The sculptures I create focus on human psychology, stripped of context and rationalization, and articulated through animal and human forms." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Surreal Animal Sculptures:** Artists can explore ways to make animal sculptures in a surreal manner, depicting them beyond their usual behavior and appearance. - **Raw Clay Sculptures:** Artists can experiment with raw clay to create sculptures with a rough touch, highlighting the natural beauty of the materials. - **Animal Psychology Art:** Artists can create sculptures that focus on the psychological behavior of animals, and how it can be used to represent human psychology. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Fine Arts:** Fine artists can explore new ways of sculpture using raw clay, and tapping animal behavior to represent human psychology. - **Illustration:** Illustrators can experiment with surrealist animal sketches inspired by Beth Cavener Stichter's works, even in children's books illustrations. - **Museum and Galleries:** Curators can feature Beth Cavener Stichter's and other artists' animal sculptures focused on animal psychology, as a way to challenge and captivate museum-goers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Almost-Extinct Animal Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fauna-series.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Human Torso-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lene-bdker.md) - [Primal-Themed Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-return.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Whimsical Spirit Art Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anima.md)
