# Monstrous Marionettes Gigantic Puppets Perform for Berlin Wall 20th Anniversary By Katherinev123 | Published 2009-10-08 | World Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/berlin-wall-20th-anniversary References: [boston](http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/10/the_berlin_reunion.html) & [thelocal.de](http://www.thelocal.de/berlinwall/) [Normal-sized puppets are scary enough](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beetlejuice-character), but marionettes the size of houses? I’d run the other way--which is why I wasn’t one of the 1.5 million people that lined the streets of Berlin for the Fall of the Berlin Wall 20th Anniversary, which showcased a several-day performance by France’s Royal de Luxe Street Theatre Company. The Royal de Luxe featured two [gigantic marionettes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giant-inflatables)—the Big Giant, a deep-sea diver, and his niece, the Little Giantess (from the looks of it, she wasn’t so little). Celebrating the Berlin Wall 20th Anniversary, the storyline is a reunion story which has the two giants separated by a wall. The Big Giant returns home from a long but successful expedition to destroy the wall and the two walk through the streets of Berlin to meet each other. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Regional](https://www.trendhunter.com/regional) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Giant Puppets:** The creation and performance of giant puppets can be a trend in the entertainment industry, attracting a larger audience. - **Street Theatre:** Street theatre can become a growing trend to commemorate historical events, enhancing the experience of history and tourism industries. - **Interactive Performances:** Interactive performances can be a trend that engages audiences in unique experiences and disrupts the live entertainment and events industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can use giant puppets in stage performances to appeal to a larger audience and enhance the live show experience. - **Tourism:** Historical tourism can explore the opportunity of incorporating street theatre performances to attract more visitors and provide an interactive experience. - **Event Planning:** The event planning industry can consider using interactive performances to create innovative experiences for attendees and stand out in the market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [High Wire City Stunts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philippe-petit.md) - [Anime Robot Replica Statues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/59foottall-gundam.md) - [30-Foot Tall Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/megasize-roxie.md) - [Larger-Than-Life Candy Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/15foot-inflatable.md) - [Inflatable Vibrant Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-dancer.md) - [Designer Toy Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monsters-by-monsters-now-and-then.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Exaggerated Holiday Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wonder-all-the-way.md) - [Inflatable-Orb Stage Set Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whomadewho.md)
