# Belly Button Lint Bears Betty Rae Case Invented a Brand New Way to Be Gross By Jessica Marcel | Published 2010-01-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/belly-button-lint-bears References: [craftastrophe.net](http://craftastrophe.net/2010/01/case-stink-finger/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31390715&image_id=92003146) Betty Rae Case is selling belly button lint bears on [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/etsy-1). Now, Etsy has become known as the place to find weird and strange things (hidden among all the cool things available on the site), but this is a whole new level. If belly button lint bears are really what they claim to be, then the grossness is unimaginable. If it’s a joke…well, it’s still gross. The bears come in glass jars; apparently, belly button lint isn’t particularly tough when it comes to handling. That’s something I didn’t need to know. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Novelty Crafts:** Opportunity for creators to explore the limits of what can be created and sold as art or craft. - **Gross-out Trends:** Opportunity for entrepreneurs to find success with products that elicit a strong response from consumers. - **Unconventional Collectibles:** Opportunity for businesses to tap into the desire for unique collectibles among certain niche markets. ### Where This Applies - **Artisanal Marketplace:** Opportunity for Etsy and similar artisanal marketplaces to attract customers looking for unique and unconventional products. - **Novelty Gifts:** Opportunity for businesses to create and sell novelty gifts that are weird, humorous, and potentially gross. - **Collectibles:** Opportunity for niche collectibles markets to tap into the human tendency to collect unique and bizarre items. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Booger-Inspired Immune Gummies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boogie-bites-candy.md) - [Cheeky Chewy Candy Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jelly-belly-belly-buttons.md) - [Offbeat Bath Bombs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/da-bomb-extreme.md) - [Witchy Plush Bears](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wicked-themed-care-bears.md) - [Teddy Bear NFTs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teddy-bear-nfts.md) - [Handcrafted Jewelry Brands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pretty-weird.md) - [Cuddly Costumed Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbie-cutie-reveal-care-bears.md) - [Back Scratcher Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-scratcher-collection.md) - [Interactive Holiday Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bearlieve-bear.md)
