# Spatially Optimized Residences The Beeston Street House is Space-Efficient By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-06-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beeston-street-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/06/12/beeston-street-house-by-shaun-lockyer-architects/) & [lockyerarchitects.au](http://www.lockyerarchitects.com.au/) The 'Beeston Street House' is the latest project by Australian firm Shaun Lockyer Architects. The architects stepped in after a previous renovation proved to be rather unsuccessful. The Lockyer design features a series of [sculpted voids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kumagaya) and formations that breathe new life into the [pre-war cottage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carlton-cottage-extension). The secondary function of the voids are to unify old and new components, creating a more harmonizing design. Rather than increasing the size of the home in their renovation, the architects made it [more compact](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype) in order to better please the clients. To make up for the size reduction, each square foot of the residence is used purposefully, creating a fluid and engaging space with no unnecessary rooms or extensions, and not a single inch wasted. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Space-efficient Architecture:** Embrace space optimization and incorporate sculpted voids and formations to create a more harmonizing design. - **Compact Home Design:** Focus on compact designs that maximize the usage of each square foot, providing a fluid and engaging space without unnecessary rooms or extensions. - **Minimalist Living Spaces:** Adopt a minimalist approach to residence design, eliminating wasted space and creating a purposeful living environment. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Explore innovative architecture and design techniques to optimize space and create more harmonizing residential spaces. - **Construction and Real Estate:** Leverage compact home design concepts to maximize the usage of limited space and meet the demands of clients seeking efficient and engaging residences. - **Interior Design and Home Decor:** Emphasize minimalist living spaces that eliminate unnecessary rooms or extensions, providing homeowners with purposeful and aesthetically pleasing environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact Corner Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modus-architect.md) - [Compact Calming Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-sheltered-space.md) - [Flexible Family Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-simple-addition.md) - [Adaptive Family Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no-ordinary-house.md) - [Clever Townhouse Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/void-house.md) - [Compact Urban Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stealth-house.md) - [Compact Madrid Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burr-studio-1.md) - [Reimagined Slim Living Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slim-fit.md) - [Reinvented Compact Living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype.md)
