Designer Becki Chan has upcycled hundreds of wasted [cork wine stoppers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wine-stopper-1) to create a [floor lamp and table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dog-crate-and-end-table) for the home. The Becki Chan 'Corky' project comprises a 2-in-1 furniture piece made from cork, which, due to its inconsistent density, was a hard material to manipulate and work with, describes the designer. The Corky piece is actually a combined table and floor lamp offering the user a multifunctional home decor and furniture accent. According to Chan, "It can be thought of as a side table, night stand or floor lamp." The table itself also features an elegant chessboard surface. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 92% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Upcycled Furnishings:** Opportunity to create eco-friendly home decor and furniture pieces using repurposed materials such as corks. - **Multifunctional Home Decor:** Opportunity to combine different pieces of furniture into one to create space-saving and convenient home decor products. - **Innovative Material Manipulation:** Opportunity to experiment with challenging materials such as cork to create unique and visually appealing home decor and furniture designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Industry:** Opportunity to incorporate eco-friendly and multifunctional designs into furniture products. - **Home Decor Industry:** Opportunity to introduce unique and innovative home decor products that use repurposed materials like cork. - **Sustainable Design Industry:** Opportunity to create sustainable home decor and furniture designs by repurposing materials and practicing innovative material manipulation techniques. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Cork Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-for-the-trees.md) - [Cork Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guillaume-delvigne.md) - [Stackable Cork-Made Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-cork-seating.md) - [Sustainable Cork Desk Organizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/korka.md) - [Versatile Cork-Producing Companies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cork-as-a-material.md) - [Sustainable Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corka.md) - [Grainy Cork Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clover-collection-2.md) - [Cork-Made Occasional Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-tk.md) - [Cork-Base Spinning Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spinmemo.md)
