The BecDot is an interactive childrens toy that helps teach braille to vision-impaired kids in a fun and affordable way. The toy, programmed through an app, uses NFC (near field communication) to identify objects placed on its surface. Objects that are tagged through the app and placed on the toy's surface are detected. The detection causes braille letters to appear, that spell out the word of the object.

The BecDot is a prototype that is intuitive and easy to program. It can be used to tag any toy the child already loves, and even comes equipped with internal speakers that can play the corresponding sound-effects of tagged objects. This innovative design is an affordable solution for parents seeking interactive, educational and sensory learning experiences for children with visual impairments.
