These Swedish Designers Turn Thrift Store Sweaters into Beautiful Rugs

For Swedish designers Katarina Brieditis and Katarina Evans making beautiful rugs is just the beginning. It's the way that they go about making these rugs that makes them unique.

The beautiful rugs that they produce on a monthly basis are completely made out of re-purposed materials from Salvation Army thrift stores. The Katarinas have an arrangement with their local Salvation Army to take sweaters and clothes that are too damaged to sell free of charge. The Katarinas then essentially disassemble the threads to then remake them into some beautiful rugs that almost anyone would gladly use as a buffer between their feet and a hardwood floor. Every time they make a new rug, they use a different style and technique (such as knitting or crocheting) entirely, meaning that everyone of their creations is deliciously unique.
