By mounting bikes onto walls and replacing the seat with a shelving unit, the old bikes have become a very interesting storage unit. The bike is placed onto a wall and the seat is replaced with an open drawer-like shelf that has a full rectangular shape. There is no front casing or door, which makes tossing keys, wallets and small objects easy and very accessible. This beautiful bicycle seat shelving unit will add a creative accent to any room. The obvious shape is a wonderful conversation starter and will be on display at the bike exhibition at the Up-Artsh Museum in Shanghai at the end of May. Each unit is handmade in Berlin by Mikili. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Upcycling Furniture:** Repurposing old items like bikes into home decor or storage units creates a unique and sustainable design opportunity. - **Functional Art:** Transforming everyday objects into functional and artistic pieces adds a touch of creativity to any space and opens up new design possibilities. - **Minimalist Storage:** Creating accessible and minimalist storage solutions using unconventional shapes like bicycle seats offers a chance to optimize and personalize space. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Incorporating sustainable and innovative design concepts like upcycling can set furniture companies apart in a crowded market. - **Home Decor:** Offering functional and artistic pieces like bicycle seat shelving units can appeal to consumers looking for unique and eye-catching decor options. - **Sustainability:** Promoting creative and environmentally-friendly products like upcycled furniture can address consumers' growing concern for sustainable and responsible consumption. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abandoned Bikes-Turned Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-from-frames.md) - [Sleek Bicycle Store Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bicycle-store.md) - [Bike-Friendly Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinajarro-bench.md) - [Tri-Functional Bicycle Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trifunctional-bicycle-rack.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Transforming Furniture Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outlaw-bike.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Stylish Space-Saving Exercise Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/theo-exercise-bike.md) - [Broken Bike Lock Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/people-and-places.md)
