# Purposefully Cracked Cups BeauTea by Martin Xiaonan Reflects on Tradition of Tea Drinking By Meghan Young | Published 2014-03-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beautea-by-martin-xiaonan References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/03/17/just-beauteaful/) & [martindesign.us](http://martindesign.us/beautea.html) Drinking a cup of tea is a ritual in many parts of the world and BeauTea by Martin Xiaonan, a UX designer and a [MFA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dramatic-arts-building) student at the [College for Creative Studies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bard-college) based in Detroit, Michigan, hopes to bring a bit of that element to Westerners. It is a beautiful design made up of two cups, one of which appears to have been cracked. The smaller, cracked cup acts as the [loose leaf diffuser](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reedesigned-teapot) while the outer cup is what people ultimately drink out of. Providing a clear view of the loose leaves as they work their magic, BeauTea by Martin Xiaonan is a gorgeous design that embodies the purifying qualities of such a drink. The inner cup remains stable while drinking thanks to the use of magnets. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 68% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Ritualistic Tea Drinking:** Designs incorporating traditional tea rituals can bring a sense of mindfulness and relaxation to Western society. - **Innovative Tea Servingware:** Creative and unique designs for tea servingware can improve the aesthetic appeal and function of tea drinking. - **Tradition-infused Designs:** Incorporating elements of traditional practices in modern designs can create a sense of nostalgia and cultural appreciation. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Tabletop Product Manufacturing:** Designers and manufacturers of servingware can create innovative and functional tea sets to enhance the tea drinking experience. - **Interior Design:** Tea servingware and accessories can be incorporated into interior design to create a calming and mindful atmosphere for customers. - **Product Design:** The development and innovation of tea servingware can provide opportunities for new and unique designs in the field of product design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Surrealist-Inspired Tea Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection.md) - [Contemporary Tea Maker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/u-soo.md) - [Connected Communicative Tea Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gptea-set.md) - [Modular Porcelain Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corcelain.md) - [Sensor-Guided Tea Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soundsip.md) - [Relaxing Countertop Tea Brewers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-tea-maker.md) - [Sustainable Upcycled Glass Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hmm-design.md) - [Contemporary Tea Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chaiboy.md) - [Cultural Tea-Inspired Health Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origin-health-pot.md)
