# Bear Puzzle Rugs Permafrost Studio's Bear Rug Features Tessellating Shapes & Hugging Bears By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2014-07-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bear-rug References: [permafrost.no](http://permafrost.no/projects/bearhug) & [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/07/21/3-whimsical-rugs-from-permafrost-studio/) On top of being adorable, this [bear rug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug-design) designed by Permafrost Studio is pretty unique. The aptly named '[Bear Hug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heartwarming-hugs)' rugs are shaped in such a way so that multiples of the rug can be arranged together, making it possible to cover a much larger surface area with the [tessellated shapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discorectangle). Taking inspiration from real bears, there are three colorways for the rug, including a white, a light brown and a darker brown. However, there's nothing at all ferocious about this hugging series of floor coverings. As well as well as being able to tailor how small or large a surface area is covered, the rugs can also be arranged to form quite unusual shapes beyond just the conventional circle, square or rectangular rug designs. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 9% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Multipurpose Rugs:** The innovation opportunity lies in designing rugs with tessellating shapes to allow for customization of surface area covered, and unusual shapes. - **Animal-inspired Home Decor:** The trend is shifting toward designing home decor inspired by animals that are aesthetically interesting and playful. - **Modular Flooring:** The opportunity for innovation lies in designs that transform flooring into a modular and interactive surface area that can be rearranged to suit changing needs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can adopt the use of tessellating shapes and multiple design variations in rugs, thus offering more options to consumers. - **Flooring:** The flooring industry could explore modular and interactive design options for flooring to meet the needs of consumers who seek versatility and customization. - **Textile Design:** The textile industry could innovate by designing unique patterns and shapes that can be easily arranged to create customizable surface areas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Luxe Tiger Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raw-emotions-3.md) - [Intricate Mascot-Honoring Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/family-of-mint.md) - [Polar Bear-Themed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polar-bear-bench.md) - [Warming Weighted Plushies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heartwarming-hugs.md) - [70s-Inspired Plush Shag Rags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petra-rug-collection.md) - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Weighted Knot Pillows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hugget.md) - [Man-Sized Cuddly Teddy Bears](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loving-bear-puffy.md) - [Cuddly Plush Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skoosherz.md)
