Researchers from Berkey have created a new [battery membrane](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/llzo-electrolytes) that will be able to better [store renewable energy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/battery-energy-storage-solutions). The increased capacity for storing electricity could latter be implemented to help [electric grids store energy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/energy-storage-installations) from renewable energy sources.

Increased battery capacity is vital to renewable energy because oftentimes renewable energy comes from wind turbines or solar panels, which are reliant in external conditions. Increased battery capacity allows people to access more electricity when there is limited sunlight and wind to power renewable sources.

Brett Helms, who led the study, spoke on potential applications for the technology, "Our AquaPIM membrane technology is well-positioned to accelerate the path to market for flow batteries that use scalable, low-cost, water-based chemistries."
