Inspired by the wire netting 'kana-ami’ cooking utensils made by [Kyoto](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-muji-base-kyoto-kiyomizu) artisans for yudofu, it boasts a flattened lampshade that could also be likened to a spider's web. Created for Kanaami-Tsuji, the Basket-Lamp by Nendo "preserves the craft’s traditions and develops it for contemporary living and future generations," as written on the latter's website. When lit, the lampshape casts an [artistic shadow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp) that highlights the sculptural aspect of its design. Available in black and white, the Basket-Lamp by Nendo is powder coated for a matte finish in order to bring out the details more. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Lighting:** Designing minimalist lighting fixtures that incorporate intricate details and unique shapes inspired by traditional objects offers disruptive innovation opportunities for the lighting industry. - **Contemporary Crafts:** Incorporating traditional crafting techniques into modern product design could bring about disruptive innovation opportunities for the home decor industry, particularly in creating conversation-starting decor pieces. - **Artistic Shadows:** Creating light fixtures that cast artistic shadows offers disruptive innovation opportunities for the lighting industry, particularly for those who value the emotional impact of lighting in interior design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting:** The lighting industry has an opportunity to innovate by creating minimalist designs with intricate details and unique shapes that offer a more emotional experience for consumers. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can innovate by incorporating traditional crafting techniques into modern product design to create conversation-starting decor pieces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. - **Craftsmanship:** Craftsmanship is still highly valued in contemporary product design and has the potential to create disruptive innovation opportunities for industries that merge traditional skills with modern technologies and styles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Posh Paper Craft-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japandi-lamp.md) - [Paper Lantern-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-andon-table.md) - [Bamboo-Inspired Glass Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-forest-glss.md) - [Japanese Lantern-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/madco.md) - [Pasta-Inspired Curvaceous Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic-lamp.md) - [Industrial Contemporary Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-light.md) - [Woven Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gurunsi.md) - [Baked Good-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/croissant-pendant.md) - [Gridded Nest-Like Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skynest.md)
