# Baseless Wine Glasses These Goblets From Lihi Svirsky Are Baseless Yet Balanced By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2013-02-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baseless-wine-glasses References: [lihisvirsky](http://lihisvirsky.com/4583740) & [lihisvirsky](http://lihisvirsky.com) The concept behind [baseless wine glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sommelier-pro-collection) is to provide a little extra oomph, which is exactly the aesthetic that Lihi Svirsky follows. Wine glasses nearly always feature a wide, round base that keeps the glass balanced while filled. Usually, the only variation on this design is to do away with the stem altogether, which results in the [stemless wine glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juno-collection). However, Svirsky takes this one step further not only by removing the base, making it dramatically thicker and [frosting the tip](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fazeek). The design is crisp, clean and doesn't muddle around with any unnecessary components. All that's needed is there and the focus moves away from what the glass itself to what's missing; a clever concept to keep people thinking. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Baseless Glassware:** There is an opportunity to create baseless versions of other glassware, such as cocktail glasses and beer mugs, to provide a unique and modern aesthetic. - **Minimalist Design:** There is an opportunity to create other household items with crisp, clean and minimalist designs, focusing on what's missing rather than what's present. - **Alternative Stemless Options:** There is an opportunity to create stemless glassware with unique designs and features, similar to Svirsky's frosting on the tip of the baseless wine glasses. ### Where This Applies - **Glassware:** Glassware companies can innovate by creating new, modern designs that challenge traditional shapes and provide a unique experience for consumers. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can incorporate baseless and minimalist designs in their products, providing a modern and sleek aesthetic for consumers. - **Hospitality:** Hospitality businesses, such as restaurants and bars, can offer customers a unique dining experience by incorporating baseless glassware and other minimalist designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stackable Chalice Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cali.md) - [Unbreakable Wine Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unbreakable-wine-glass.md) - [Minimalist Glassware Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-glassware.md) - [Thin-Based Angular Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drinkware-1.md) - [Nesting Gem-Like Drinking Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upsidedownside-glasses.md) - [Stackable Minimalist Glassware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aeris-doublewalled-glassware.md) - [Wine-Catered Vibrant Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wine-table.md) - [Ultra-Elegant Glassware Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domain-glass.md) - [Wabi-Sabi-Informed Green Glassware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-glassware.md)
