# Classic Pixelated Busts The Banksy Cardinal Sin Sculpture Shows the True Meaning of Christianity By Meghan Young | Published 2011-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/banksy-cardinal-sin References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/banksys-new-pixelated-sculpture-cardinal-sin) & [bbc](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16184773) The Banksy Cardinal Sin sculpture represents many things such as the ideas of merit, immortality and religion. Yet Banksy sums it up quite eloquently in one sentence: "I'm never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one." In this case, he has blurred the lines between these two outcomes by taking a classic bust and making the identity of the poser anonymous by placing a pixelated mask over the face. Simple yet clever, as is the case with almost all of his works, the Banksy Cardinal Sin sculpture was unveiled at the [Walker Art Gallery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sail-light) in Liverpool, England. It has been controversially placed near 17th Century religious art that include large church altarpieces and other religious pieces. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Anonymous Identity:** Exploring ways to blur identities can lead to disruptive innovation opportunities in technology, art, and online privacy. - **Controversial Placement:** Challenging traditional exhibition spaces can create disruptive innovation opportunities in the art and museum industries. - **Deep Symbolism:** Finding new ways to represent complex concepts can spark disruptive innovation opportunities in art, sculpture, and communication. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Technology:** Developing tools and techniques for pixelating or anonymizing identities can revolutionize online privacy and security in various industries. - **Art:** Exploring unconventional materials, techniques, and themes in sculpture and visual arts can challenge traditional norms and drive disruptive innovation. - **Museum:** Reimagining gallery and exhibition spaces to include controversial or thought-provoking artworks can attract new audiences and disrupt the traditional museum experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tree-Integrated Mysterious Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-mural.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Museum Street Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piranha-tank.md) - [Sin-Inspired Artful Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sinful-feast.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Peace-Centric Oversized Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-head.md) - [Minimalist Wooden Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-wooden-figures.md) - [Striking Wearable Sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wearable-sculpture-1.md) - [Luxury Fashion Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-fashion-sculpture.md)
