# Octopus Tentacle Lighting The Balcony Tealight Fastens to Balcony Rails Via Squidlike Appendages By Jason Soy | Published 2011-07-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balcony-tealight References: [designerblog.it](http://www.designerblog.it/post/11393/i-complementi-urban-balcony-di-barbed) & [barbedshop](http://www.barbedshop.co.uk/shop/products/balcony-tealight.aspx) I think the function of the Balcony Tealight is great, but what truly takes this idea to the next level is the fact that these vibrantly colored illuminators fasten to [balcony rails](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deskterior) via octopuslike tentacles. It truly gives an organic way to spruce up a living space. What's also great about the Balcony Tealight is that Barbed, the company behind these [creepy-crawly lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting), also used the same concept for a bunch of other quirky products. Now you can have a balcony full of [tentacle flower vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sculptures) as well as tentacle ashtrays. **Implications** - Consumers enjoy furniture design that is idiosyncratic because it satiates their desire to create distinctive living spaces unlike those of their peers. Corporations should take this consumer desire for individuality into consideration when designing new products. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Idiosyncratic Furniture Design:** Designing furniture that is idiosyncratic can appeal to consumers who desire unique living spaces, presenting a disruptive innovation opportunity for corporations. - **Organic Balcony Decor:** Creating balcony decor that has an organic and natural aesthetic, such as octopus tentacle lighting, can be a unique way to spruce up living spaces and offer a disruptive innovation opportunity for home decor companies. - **Quirky and Playful Home Accessories:** Developing quirky and playful home accessories, like tentacle flower vases and ashtrays, can cater to consumers looking for unique and whimsical pieces, presenting a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies in the home goods industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** In the field of furniture design, developing idiosyncratic pieces can satisfy consumer desires for individuality, opening up a disruptive innovation opportunity. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can tap into the demand for organic and unique balcony decor, such as octopus tentacle lighting, to offer disruptive innovation in the market. - **Home Goods:** Companies in the home goods industry can create quirky and playful accessories like tentacle flower vases and ashtrays to cater to consumers seeking distinctive and whimsical products, presenting a disruptive innovation opportunity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chic Saucer-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-in-tight-light-fixture.md) - [Demure Dual-Function Hanging Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-fixture-planter.md) - [Bubble-Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bubbles-lighting-design.md) - [Air Balloon-Inspired Lamp Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-balloon-lamp.md) - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Kinetic Insect Sculpture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dragonfly-balance-light.md) - [Bright Whimsical Home Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-balcony.md) - [Flower-Like Portable Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tulit-led-lantern.md) - [Whimsical Item-Holding Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightray.md)
