# Sharp Extended Roofs 'Balcones House' Features a Exaggerated Roof Design By Joey Haar | Published 2017-12-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balcones-house References: [archdaily](https://www.archdaily.com/886176/balcones-house-mell-lawrence-architects) There are so many millions of houses around the world, yet to stand out from the rest, 'Balcones House' exaggerates a property that every other house is sure to have: the roof. Though the residence has many interesting features, its most striking is surely its roof, which extends horizontally out over the patio area that encircles the ground floor. Aside from its striking roof design, Balcones House features many other interesting aspects. The walls of the ground floor are almost entirely made of glass, giving the home the look of an old-fashioned lantern, especially at night when the light from inside spills out into the world. The home also has a [smooth, nearly flat swimming pool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-rock) in the backyard that is designed to mirror the shape of the roof. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Exaggerated Roofs:** The trend towards exaggerated roofs in modern architecture presents opportunities for innovative roofing solutions. - **Glass Walls/transparency:** The trend towards greater transparency and glass walls in modern architecture presents opportunities for new smart glass technologies. - **Roof-mirroring Pools:** The trend towards roof-mirroring pools in modern architecture presents opportunities for innovative pool designs and technologies. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can leverage these trends to showcase their creativity and offer clients innovative designs and solutions. - **Construction:** Construction companies can adopt new materials and technologies to meet the demand for these trendy features in modern homes. - **Smart Glass:** Smart glass manufacturers can capitalize on the trend towards transparency in modern architecture by developing new products that offer privacy and energy efficiency. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Mountaintop Cantilevered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitae-house.md) - [Pyramid-Like Suburban Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oza-sabbeth-architects.md) - [Cutout Roof Cement-Clad Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edition-office.md) - [Dramatic Roof-Topped Ontario Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ridge-house.md) - [Bamboo Luxe Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/godai-pavilion.md) - [Contemporary Adaptable Concrete House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/binocular-house.md) - [Boxy Shaped Beach Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roman-izquierdo-bouldstridge.md) - [Sustainable Dynamic Hilltop Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ro54.md)
