# Blade-Thin Furniture The Baguettes Chair is Super-Minimal and Extremely Light By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-07 | Updated 2011-04-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baguettes-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/04/07/the-baguettes-chair-by-ronan-and-erwan-bouroullec-for-magis/) & [bouroullec](http://www.bouroullec.com/) The Baguettes chair boasts something very few pieces of furniture can, and that happens to be a blade-thin design. Considering that there is always a new seating option being presented at one design show or another, it's interesting to see a designer introduce something so interestingly innovative. In this case, it happened to be two designers. The Baguettes chair was created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for the Italian furniture manufacturer [MAGIS](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trave-chair). Although we have seen [very minimal furniture designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightness-of-form) before, the Bouroullecs wanted to take the Baguettes chair a step further in terms of slimness and weight. [Made out of plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mt-chair), each Baguettes chair was injected with aluminum for extra support. It is available in both natural and stained ash. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Blade-thin Design:** The trend of blade-thin design in furniture offers opportunities for creating lightweight and minimalist pieces that push the boundaries of traditional aesthetics. - **Minimalistic Furniture:** The trend of minimalistic furniture design opens up avenues for creating sleek and uncluttered products that cater to the modern consumer's desire for simplicity and functionality. - **Innovative Seating Options:** The trend of introducing innovative seating options in the furniture industry presents disruptive opportunities for designers to create unique and unconventional chairs that redefine comfort and style. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can leverage blade-thin designs to develop lightweight and space-saving furniture solutions that cater to consumers' changing needs and preferences. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can embrace the trend of minimalistic furniture to create stylish and functional spaces that prioritize simplicity and optimize small living areas. - **Product Design:** The product design industry can explore innovative seating options to revolutionize the way people experience comfort and ergonomics, pushing the boundaries of traditional chair designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Strong Geometric Steel Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerothickness-chair.md) - [Aesthetically Pleasing Minimalist Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-chairs.md) - [Ultra-Minimalist Folding Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notch-folding-chair.md) - [Chic Single-Piece Plywood Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/void-lounge-chair.md) - [Cubic Featherlight Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-hold-up-chair.md) - [Thin Metal Rod Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/velit-chair.md) - [High-Quality Flatpack Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pagoda-chair.md) - [Sleek Minimal Cohesive Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sand-chair.md) - [Liberating Sleek Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arba-chair.md)
