Badger Meter has created a smart water network -- [Beacon Advanced Metering Analytics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-sanitation-device) -- that detects leaks in a building in order to address wastage as quickly as possible. Implemented by the [University of California](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-device-1), the system has already helped save several million of gallons through its near real-time data. Since the university is located in the Central Valley, one of the driest regions in California, this is a great advancement.

Environmental Leader writes, "Last month the city of Santa Fe chose Badger Meter’s Beacon [smart water meter system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meter-testing) for full installation across all of it water meter endpoints, including both residential and commercial customers." It uses a managed solution approach and two-way communications — plus fixed and cellular networks — to deliver a simple yet powerful end-to-end solution to the water waste problem.
