Engineered biological nanofactories may be able to prevent [bacterial infections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/periotrap) by confusing bacteria and stop them from spreading, without the use of antibiotics. Research from the A. James Clark School of Engineering in College Park, Maryland, have created nanofactories that can tell the difference between bad bacteria and good bacteria and disrupt the bad.

The [nanotechnology application](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-strains) may be able to interfere with a strain of bacteria that has become [antibiotic-resistant](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anibiom) because they are designed to affect communication, instead of trying to kill the bacteria.
