# Insect Wing-Inspired Pavilions The Dragonfly Pavilion is a Backyard Escape with a Modern Flair By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2017-02-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backyard-escape References: [coolmaterial](http://coolmaterial.com/home/dragonfly-pavilion-backyard-shelter/) & [cdrstudio](http://www.cdrstudio.com/work/residential/hobokenpavilion) The Dragonfly Pavilion is designed as the perfect backyard escape for those who want to enjoy the majesty of the outdoors without having to physically be out in the open. Ideal as an [open-air office or lounge area](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion-2), the Dragonfly Pavilion is the design work of CDR and was manufactured by [SITU Fabrication](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/klein-agency). The design of the Dragonfly Pavilion sees a single space be created within the backyard escape that features ample floor space and a simple bench. The exterior design of the Dragonfly Pavilion structure is inspired by the wings of a dragonfly (hence the name) and consists of wood, screens and glass being used to achieve it. The Dragonfly Pavilion stands as a far more modern and design-conscious building when compared to [traditional gazebos or backyard sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-round-pavilion). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Biophilic Architecture:** Designing backyard escapes and outdoor structures that seamlessly integrate with nature, creating a harmonious environment. - **Innovative Building Materials:** Using unconventional materials and techniques to construct outdoor structures that are aesthetically pleasing, durable, and eco-friendly. - **Outdoor Live-work Spaces:** Creating functional and stylish outdoor spaces that allow people to work, relax and connect with nature at the same time. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Incorporating biophilic design principles in real estate projects, such as houses, hotels, and commercial spaces. - **Construction Materials:** Developing new sustainable materials and building techniques for outdoor structures, such as wood, screens, glass, among others. - **Furniture and Decor:** Designing functional and stylish outdoor furniture and decor that blend with the natural setting of backyard escapes and pavilions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Backyard Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmo-pavilion.md) - [Artful Wooden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orchid-pavilion.md) - [Serene Wooden Garden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion-1.md) - [Kinetic Insect Sculpture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dragonfly-balance-light.md) - [Cozy Gaden Cabin Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-pavilion.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Serene Waterfront Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion.md) - [Bamboo Luxe Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/godai-pavilion.md) - [Outdoor Pavilion Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teepee-pavilion.md)
