# Rear-Separated Seating The Back Floating Chair Appears to Comprise Unconnected Planes By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-04-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-floating-chair References: [kit-kit](http://kit-kit.com/chair3.html) The Back Floating Chair seems to offer the sitter a [sturdy seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair) on which to place his weight; however, can the same be said about the rear support? Kei Harada has, of course, constructed the piece of furniture with sufficient strength, even though it looks like the backrest is barely attached. The U-shaped composition of the base of the object actually conceals a pair of thin braces. These hold the rear panel firmly in place in a way that's visually undetectable from most perspectives. It appears as though the KIT furnishing is made up of just [four flat rectangular planes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr) the merge in some places and hover adjacent in others. The [minimalist whitewash](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedeo-chair) of the Back Floating Chair reinforces the structure's illusion. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Rear-separated Seating:** The trend of backrests appearing to be barely attached to the seat using invisible support braces. - **Minimalist Furniture Design:** The trend of modern home decor incorporating minimalist furniture design with innovative construction methods. - **Illusionary Furniture Elements:** The trend of furniture designers using clever construction and finishing techniques to create an illusionary design aesthetic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing and Design:** Furniture manufacturers and designers can explore new designs and construction techniques to create innovative and visually stunning furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate minimalist furniture pieces with clever construction techniques into their designs to create unique and attractive living spaces. - **Home Decor Retail:** Home decor retailers can offer a selection of visually striking and innovative furniture pieces to appeal to consumers with a taste for modern and unique design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illusory Disconnected Component Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fly-armchair.md) - [Cubic Featherlight Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-hold-up-chair.md) - [Sleek Minimal Cohesive Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sand-chair.md) - [Gravity-Defying Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-isolounge-chair.md) - [Sculptural Gravity Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-bench.md) - [Aesthetically Pleasing Minimalist Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-chairs.md) - [Strong Geometric Steel Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerothickness-chair.md) - [Plywood Sculptural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mt-chair.md) - [Chic Single-Piece Plywood Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/void-lounge-chair.md)
