# Unexpected Urban Decor Baccarat Chandeliers on Rue des Hallebardes By Bianca | Published 2008-02-26 | World Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baccarat-chandelier-rue-des-hallebardes References: [casasugar](http://casasugar.com/1065956) How romantic would it be to stroll the streets of France an instead of streetlamps, had your evening stroll illuminated by the cascading glow from chandeliers? It must have been vraiment enchanting to see these glowing in the night in the small town bordering Germany. They are hung as part of the December light festivals in Strasbourg, in the province of Alsace, France. The chandeliers, enclosed in [Baccarat cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baccarat-hotel-new-york), are strung up alongside Rue des Hallebardes near the cathedral. All of them are clear crystal except for the two on the very end of the street which are black. The town is known as being the "Christmas Capitol of Europe" so they make full use of this reputation during the month of December to bring as many tourists as possible. They have countless [Christmas markets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elora-christmas-market), just like in Germany, and it seems every nook and cranny of the city is decorated to the nines. What do you expect in a place where Germany and France merge? Yes, it's a little cheesy, but perhaps it's the hopeless romantic in me who finds an appeal in this. Do you remember the illuminated aquariums inside phone booths? Those were also part of a French light festival, the Fête des lumières in Lyon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Unexpected Urban Decor:** Decorating urban spaces with unexpected and eye-catching elements to attract tourism and create a unique experience. - **Baccarat Chandeliers:** Luxury lighting options within public spaces that offer a touch of glamor and sophistication. - **Light Festivals:** An emerging trend of using light installations as art to highlight public spaces, attract tourists and create a unique atmosphere. ### Where This Applies - **Tourism:** Light festivals and unexpected urban decor can attract tourists and drive revenue for the tourism industry. - **Luxury Home Decor:** Baccarat chandeliers can be marketed towards high-end home design and lighting companies for use in luxury interior design. - **Event Planning:** Creating unique lighting experiences within events can set planners apart from competitors and provide a memorable experience for attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Maximalist Chandelier Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baccarat-x-harry-nuriev.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [Luxury Brand Light Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-constellation-of-love.md) - [Multifaceted Glass Crystal Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-light-fixtures.md) - [Parisian Haussmann-Era Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uchronia.md) - [Immersive Holiday Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-holiday-experience.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Neon Illuminated Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fluorescence.md) - [Artfully Functional Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chant.md)
