# Crowing Alarm Clocks The Babushka Alarm Clock is Inspired by the Old World By Michael Hines | Published 2012-12-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/babushka-alarm-clock References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Babushkas-Alarm-Clock/4491371) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/deniskalinin) Russian designer Denis Kalinin is behind the Babushka Alarm Clock, a clock designed to take you back to a simpler time. Back before there were a ton of [alarm clock apps for smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ahmed-rashad), people in small villages were often woken up by the crow of a rooster. That’s the main idea behind the Babushka Alarm Clock. The red rooster can be affixed to any portion of the clock, and it crows when the hour hand hovers over it. Kalinin admits that the Babushka Alarm Clock isn’t entirely accurate, but he states that since it’s designed to mimic rural [alarm clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/international-delight-cinnabon-alarm-clocks) (roosters), accuracy isn’t of the utmost importance. In addition to the novelty of being awoken by a rooster, the clock’s design is also a tribute to traditional Russian culture, specifically in the usage of Volgoda lace and Russian barouqe. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Nostalgic Alarm Clocks:** Opportunity to create alarm clocks that evoke nostalgia and bring a sense of simplicity to people's lives. - **Unique Alarm Features:** Opportunity to design alarm clocks with unconventional features, such as animal sounds, to enhance the waking up experience. - **Cultural-inspired Alarm Clocks:** Opportunity to create alarm clocks that incorporate cultural elements to celebrate diversity and heritage. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to create unique alarm clocks that serve as functional and aesthetic pieces for the home. - **Electronics:** Opportunity for electronics companies to innovate and design alarm clocks with advanced features and technology. - **Gifts & Souvenirs:** Opportunity for companies in the gifts and souvenirs industry to create alarm clocks that are unique, culturally-inspired, and serve as memorable gifts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Connected Toy-Like Alarm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubb-alarm-clock.md) - [Minimal Assistive Multifunctional Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-house-alarm-clock.md) - [Modernized Vintage-Inspired Alarm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roberts-ortus-5.md) - [Chic Circadian Rhythm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hatch-restore-2.md) - [Tranquil Coffee Aroma Alarms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunrise-alarm.md) - [Branded Technology Alarm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-snooze.md) - [Reimagined Modern Pendulum Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heng-alarm.md) - [Rainbow Illumination Alarm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alarm-clock-concept.md) - [Gentle Alarm Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-alarm-clock.md)
