# Haphazard Horizontal Shelves Babel Storage System Invites You to Lay Books in Organized Chaos By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-02-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/babel-storage-system References: [betterlivingthroughdesign](http://www.betterlivingthroughdesign.com/furnishings/babel-modular-shelving-system-2/) & [suiteny](http://www.suiteny.com/product/detail/325/22/22) The Babel Storage System is unlike your typical bookcase; instead of enabling the vertical arrangement of books and decorative items, the quirky unit requires you to lay your possessions out horizontally to fit within the short and wide cubbies. Designed by Studio Parade and made birch plywood by Spectrum, the bookshelf comprises a set frame with customizable modules. The user is encouraged to move the block-like dividers between each ledge to increase or reduce space depending on the sizes of the items intended for placement in side. An overall balanced treatment to the arbitrary arrangement of the Babel Storage System separators guarantees the structural soundness of the shelf.
