'AZ House' is Inspired by Chinese Puzzle Boxes

'AZ House', a family home on Lebanon's Mediterranean coast, has a rich collection of inspirations. The cubic, concrete home has carved out slats that are designed to look like the notches in a Chinese puzzle box, and, taken as a whole, the building's facades are all similar in appearance to a [Mondrian](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mondrian-routers) painting.

From the exterior, one would be excused for thinking that the home is inwardly focused. It's monolithic, concrete cubism doesn't immediately suggest that it also offers up a panorama. However, the [slats carved into the building](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anchor-house) are expressly designed to give the best view possible of the sea visible to the south. Further, the home's ground floor is entirely open, with a [glass wall surrounding it 270 degrees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campos-studio) to give a wide vista.
