# Pipe-Like Pitch Testers The Avant-Garde Guitar Tuner Embraces the Arts and Emotion in its Design By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avant-garde-guitar-tuner References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/07/10/avante-garde-guitar-tuning/) Music is an art -- both fluid and creative -- and this [Avant-Garde](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasium) Guitar Tuner seems to acknowledge this quality more than most devices of its type. Instead of taking the typical shape of a small rectangular gadget that features buttons and a digital screen, this object looks to have been aesthetically inspired by the [antique gramophone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acoustic-sculpture-speaker). Not only does this shape directly reference music and sound projection, Hans Kim's streamlined contemporary-adapted sculpture embodies beautiful smooth lines and a gentle curving form for a visual grace. When in use, the pipe-like piece balances with its ear open and its pointy tail pointing up and back. A dial in the listener of the Avant-Garde Guitar Tuner lets you select the note you wish to play. Balancing on its base, the gauge wobbles the more you deviate from key. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Art-inspired Music Gadgets:** Opportunity for creating innovative music gadgets that incorporate aesthetic design elements and evoke emotions. - **Streamlined Contemporary-adapted Sculptures:** Potential for developing sculptures that combine contemporary design with traditional elements for a visually appealing aesthetic. - **Interactive Tuning Devices:** Space for designing tuning devices that engage the user through interactive features, enhancing the tuning experience. ### Where This Applies - **Music Tech:** The music tech industry can explore the potential of integrating art and emotion into guitar tuners and other music gadgets. - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create contemporary-adapted sculptures inspired by music and sound projection. - **Instrument Accessories:** Scope for developing innovative tuning devices and accessories that offer an interactive and visually appealing experience for musicians. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Style-Conscious Guitar Amps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amonito-guitar-amplifier.md) - [Futuristic Abstract Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeta-electric-guitar.md) - [Electronic String Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harmoni.md) - [Effect-Emitting Guitar Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitar-gadgets.md) - [Minimalist Instrument-Holding Amplifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeze-guitar-amp.md) - [AI-Powered Guitar Pick Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piek.md) - [Music Analysis Compact Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analist.md) - [Adjustable Guitar Equalizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mechanical-guitar-equalizer.md) - [Guitar-Holding Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guitarholding-bench.md)
